Name: Mike Gill
Position: Marketing Coordinator
Working at CareGuide since July 2016
How did you get connected with CareGuide and land the position?
While my background is in math, I was lucky enough to be selected as a 2016 Venture for Canada Fellow. Through the program, I was able to pitch myself to partner start-up companies, one of whom was CareGuide. CareGuide’s VP of Operations Brian took note, and now here I am.
What do you like about working here?
There are many reasons why I love working here, but if I had to pick one it would be the people. CareGuide is filled with brilliant, hard working, caring people who are committed to their work. Every day I come in to the office motivated to learn from others and become better at my role.
What is an average day here?
The great thing about working at CareGuide is we all trust one another to reach our goals. As a result, we have a solid culture of autonomy, where individuals decide for themselves how they will get their work done.
What are some perks at CareGuide?
Every Friday we order in, courtesy of CareGuide, and spend an hour connecting over our lives beyond work. This small ritual has helped us build a strong sense of camaraderie and connection within our company.
What makes CareGuide unique?
At CareGuide, everyone on the team has a deep respect for one another. We are always excited to hear ideas from our teammates, and genuinely happy to hear of one-another’s successes. There are no politics here. Beyond this, our team is very committed to mentorship; more experienced individuals are always making time to share knowledge with newer recruits, like myself. I’m grateful to say I’ve met multiple people at CareGuide who I now consider to be mentors.
What is unique about CareGuide’s culture?
At CareGuide, we actively recognize each other’s successes, while also being entirely transparent about obstacles we face along the way. As a company we are committed to autonomy, so we trust each other to work on, and solve, problems that will have an impact.

Advice to new graduates?
Surround yourself with people who push you to be better. The people I met in university were constantly looking to do good, and to improve as individuals. Their great ability and drive helped me grow every day.
Beyond that, I wouldn’t get too caught up with the idea of working in just one industry. You never know what you might learn to be passionate about.
